What Is Cold Laser Therapy

Cold Laser Therapy is a well-established therapy for pain relief and rehabilitation of numerous injuries. The laser light penetrates tissue where it is absorbed by cells and effectively stimulates healing and rapid pain relief. Micro-Current Electrical Stimulation stimulates the production of endorphins, which are the body’s natural pain relievers. As a result, local physiological changes become evident, namely muscle relaxation and improved circulation. When this occurs, oxygen flows more freely and promotes natural healing.

Benefits Of Cold Laser Therapy

  • Improves and promotes healing

  • Reduces pain and spasm

  • Increases joint flexibility

  • Reduces symptoms of osteoarthritis

  • Improves peripheral micro-circulation

  • Detoxifies and eliminates trigger points

  • Advanced pain relief

LaserTouchOne (Huntington Office)

The LaserTouchOne which combines the two therapies in one device was compared in a clinical study to a cold laser device and separately a micro-current electrical stimulation device. The LTO device was successful in reducing pain by at least 2 points in 93.1% of the Completer population (compared with 83.3% with the TENS device and 62.5% with the LLT device).

LaserTouchOne is a combined low level laser and micro-current electrical stimulation device. This combination of low level light and micro-current electrical stimulation provides symptomatic relief of chronic, intractable pain, and is indicated for adjunctive treatment of post-surgical and post-traumatic acute pain and for adjunctive use in providing temporary relief of minor chronic pain of musculoskeletal origin.

What makes this device so effective is that it treats the source of the pain, not just the symptoms. Typically the treatment of pain is done by immobilizing and using heavy medications for numbing. Stimulating the damaged cells to promote re-growth and healing is frequently ignored. The effect of using the LaserTouchOne does just that. There are very few limits to what this device can provide to sufferers of chronic pain.

Whether you enjoy hiking, biking, running, tennis and racquetball, or any other activity that can lead to muscle pain, LaserTouchOne can keep you in the game.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are there any studies that support laser therapy?

More than 2,500 published studies worldwide involving laser therapy, with over 100 double-blind studies published. There are several effects that have been observed with therapeutic lasers, and photo-therapy in general, that make laser therapy unique among the various healing modalities available today. Photobiomodulation produces changes in oxidation/reduction status of the mitochondria which lead to substantial increases in ATP synthesis. Activation of the sodium/potassium pump alters the cell membrane permeability.

Does it hurt? What does a treatment feel like?

There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally one feels mild, soothing warmth or tingling. Areas of pain or inflammation may be sensitive briefly before pain reduction.

Are there any side effects or associated risks?

During more than twenty years of use by healthcare providers all over the world, very few side effects have ever been reported. Occasionally some old injuries or pain syndromes may feel aggravated for a few days, as the healing response is more active after treatment.

How long does each treatment take?

The typical treatment is 3 to 9 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

How often should a patient be treated?

Acute conditions may be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain. More chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times a week, tapering to once a week or once every other week, with improvement.

How many treatments does it take?

This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions 1 to 6 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 10 to 15 (or more) treatments. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain.

How long before the results are felt?

You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean that nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 or 4 sessions.

Can it be used in conjunction with other forms of treatment?

Yes. Laser Therapy is often used with other forms of therapy, including acupuncture, physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, massage, soft tissue mobilization, electrotherapy and even following surgery. Other healing modalities are complementary and can be used with laser to increase the effectiveness of the treatment.
